Living and working in a beautiful part of the world (in the Highlands of Scotland) has inspired us to preserve and protect our surrounding environment, and to ensure we have methods and supply chain that not only will withstand public scrutiny and ensure the long-term future of the company and the security to its employees and stake holders. As a company we are constantly re-using and re-cycling our foundry consumables and moulding materials as much as possible.
We are currently working towards achieving ISO 14001 accreditation, as our current processes ensure we meet the requirements of the standard. For several years, we have been building towards this accreditation with some major investments in plant and machinery. Our premises was fitted with a 10KwH solar array 8 years ago with the goal of becoming the most sustainable and greenest foundry in the UK. The remaining power that we require is sourced from the wide range of local renewable suppliers we have in the Highlands. We then invested in an induction furnace, which finally removed the requirement to burn fossil fuels in our melt process.
The long-term life span of our products can be measured against our carbon footprint and that can, we believe sets us apart from our competitors.
Black Isle Bronze is also a corporate partner with Trees for Life, a locally based charity dedicated to the rewilding areas of the Scottish Highlands. As a corporate partner, we assist them with their carbon offsetting programme, through tree planting which has the capacity to offset 50,000 tonnes of carbon.
100% of our sand moulds and solid investment casting materials are recycled within the foundry for re-use and 20% of our sand is used for other purposes.
Black Isle Bronze always had a firm commitment to the cycle to work scheme since its inception, encouraging staff to cycle to and from work and currently some 5 of our 12 staff members come to work in this way.
